SLF Quickstart

Why should I care?

You should care because,

  • 15 people die and 60 are permanently disabled every hour in road accidents in India, giving it the dubious distinction of being world number 1 in road fatalities.

Road Fatalities in India & China

  • Missing or inadequate Emergency Medical Services in most parts of the country including the capital city of Delhi that has 35 EMS ambulances (CATS) catering to a population of 18 million.
  • Leading cause of death in the age group 15-40, the most productive section of society.
  • The annual economic loss close to 3% of India’s annual GDP (World Bank).
  • 80% victims do not receive access to care within the Golden Hour.
  • Bystanders act as mere spectators due to fear of legal hassles and lack of training.
  • Police first to respond but untrained to save lives.

SLF is encouraging & training common citizens along with Police first-responders to help an accident victim with skill and confidence. Remember, you may be a spectator today but you might become a victim tomorrow. Do not hesitate to help.

What can I do?

  1. Drive responsibly; there are other people like you on the road. Be mindful of emergency vehicles. Always give way to them.
  2. Learn what to do in an accident.
  3. Volunteer for SLF’s Emergency Response Network (SERN). Write to for more details.
